The Foothills Branch is thriving: new programs, growing membership, and a community that genuinely cares about helping people get outside with confidence and joy. To keep that momentum going, we’re looking for a few thoughtful, community‑minded volunteers to step into key leadership and support roles.

You don’t need decades of experience or expert‑level skills! What matters most is your willingness to collaborate, communicate, and help create a welcoming environment for anyone who finds their way to The Mountaineers.

Below are our current open positions — each one an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Chair-Elect

The Chair-Elect works alongside the current Branch Chair to learn the role, support branch priorities, and help guide the overall direction of the Foothills Branch. This is a shared leadership position with plenty of mentorship and collaboration.

Why this role matters: The Chair-Elect helps ensure continuity, supports committee leaders, and contributes to the long‑term health of the branch.

Great for: People who enjoy big‑picture thinking, community building, and supporting volunteers across many activities.

Treasurer

The Treasurer plays a key role in supporting the financial health and transparency of the Foothills Branch. You don’t need to be an accountant — just someone who is comfortable with numbers, organized, and interested in helping the branch steward its resources responsibly.

What this role looks like:

  • Tracking and reviewing branch‑level budgets
  • Supporting committee leaders with basic financial questions
  • Coordinating with Mountaineers staff on reimbursements and financial processes
  • Providing simple financial updates at Branch Council meetings

Why this role matters: The Treasurer helps ensure that Foothills Branch programs, courses, and events have the resources they need to thrive — and that our branch remains strong and sustainable for years to come.

Great for: Detail‑oriented helpers, spreadsheet‑friendly minds, and anyone who enjoys behind‑the‑scenes support that makes a big difference.

Navigation Committee Chair

You don’t need to be a navigation expert — truly. The Navigation Committee Chair focuses on supporting course leads, coordinating with the activity committee, and helping keep the Foothills Branch navigation programs running smoothly.

What this role looks like:

  • Understanding the courses and being competent with the concepts
  • Supporting instructors and volunteers
  • Helping with scheduling, communication, and coordination
  • Representing the Navigation Committee at Branch Council

Great for: Organizers, communicators, and anyone who enjoys helping instructors shine.

Staying Found Course Leader

The Staying Found Course Leader helps guide one of the Foothills Branch's most welcoming entry points into on‑trail navigation. You don’t need to be an expert; you just need solid navigation skills, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in helping participants of varied outdoor backgrounds build confidence in reading maps, understanding terrain, and making informed decisions on the trail.

What this role looks like:

  • Coordinating with instructors and field trip leaders
  • Supporting course logistics, scheduling, and communication
  • Ensuring course materials stay up to date and easy to use
  • Helping create a welcoming, low‑pressure learning environment
  • Participating in the Foothills Branch Navigation Committee as needed

Why this role matters: Staying Found is often a member’s first step into navigation — and sometimes their first step into volunteering. A strong course leader helps students feel supported, instructors feel prepared, and the program continue to grow.

Great for: Encouraging teachers, organized planners, and anyone who enjoys helping beginners succeed.

Annual Branch Celebration Planner

Our Annual Celebration is the biggest Foothills Branch event of the year — a joyful evening of community, recognition, and connection. We’re looking for someone who enjoys event planning and wants to help shape a memorable gathering.

What this role looks like:

  • Coordinating venue, food, and program flow
  • Collaborating with committees to highlight volunteers
  • Helping create a warm, inclusive atmosphere

Great for: Detail‑oriented planners, creative thinkers, and people who love bringing others together.

Events Chair

The Events Chair helps bring Foothills Branch members together throughout the year — from speaker nights to skills workshops to social gatherings. This role is all about building community and supporting the branch’s outreach and engagement efforts.

What this role looks like:

  • Collaborating with committees to schedule and promote events
  • Supporting logistics and communication
  • Helping create a welcoming, accessible experience for attendees

Great for: Connectors, organizers, and anyone who enjoys shaping community‑building experiences.

Communications Committee Members

The Communications Committee helps tell the story of the Foothills Branch through newsletters, blogs, social posts, website updates, and member outreach. This is a flexible, collaborative team where you can contribute as much or as little as your schedule allows.

Ways to help:

  • Writing short features or volunteer spotlights
  • Editing or proofreading
  • Helping with social media or graphics
  • Organizing content for the website or newsletter

Great for: Writers, editors, creatives, and anyone who enjoys sharing good news.

Why Step into a Volunteer Role?

  • You’ll be supported by a friendly, collaborative community
  • You can choose a role that fits your time and interests
  • You’ll help shape the future of a branch that’s growing in exciting ways
  • You’ll make a real difference in how people experience the outdoors

The Foothills Branch thrives because people like you choose to get involved. Whether you’re curious about leadership, passionate about community, or simply want to help behind the scenes, there’s a place for you here.

Interested? Let’s Talk.

If any of these roles spark your interest — even a little — we’d love to connect. Please email Foothills Branch Chair Travis Vermeer at travisvermeer@gmail.com or Foothills Branch Secretary Mary Webb at foothillssecretary046@gmail.com. There’s no pressure and no commitment. Just a conversation about what might be a good fit.
