Just imagine: the whoosh of your cross-country skis skimming over bright, perfectly groomed snow in crisp air with aqua-blue sky and dramatic Canadian Rockies views all around. Your breath makes a crystal fog (and ice on your eye lashes!) as you experience exhilarating physical challenge on some of the most gorgeous groomed cross-country ski terrain in the world.

This is the experience you can expect on The Mountaineers Canadian Rockies Cross-Country Ski Global Adventure in February 2026, led by Cindy Hoover and Cheri Solien, who have been leading Mountaineers on fun cross-country ski adventures for years! While the Rockies are an internationally-known adventure area for climbers and backpackers during the summer, folks in the know think the area is even more beautiful in the winter as the snow on the light grey granite peaks adds definition and drama to the views.

During this trip you’ll experience the heart of Alberta’s winter wonderland, including:

  • Peter Lougheed Provincial Park’s 90km of groomed trails in the Kananaskis Country
  • The Canmore Nordic Center, developed for the 1988 Winter Olympics, with its 65km of meticulously groomed trails & warming hut
  • Lake Louise, a postcard-perfect base for skiing in Banff National Park
  • A ski across frozen Emerald Lake or along the Kicking Horse River in Yoho National Park, with dramatic mountain backdrops at every turn

Ask past participants what they remember most, and you’ll hear stories of:

  • Sunny lunches on snow couches sculpted by hand
  • “Sailing” across frozen Lake Louise with jackets held open to catch the wind
  • Shared dinners filled with laughter and hearty appetites
  • The surreal stillness of skiing across Emerald Lake in winter and seeing the lumpy, scenic terrain of its alluvial fan, a geological delight on skis

The trip will take place Feb 14-22, 2026. Find out more and apply to join this fantastic adventure!
