Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. With all of the extra time indoors, join the Tacoma Hiking & Backpacking Committee for an evening session to get you excited about your next adventure. All sessions will take place via Zoom meeting and advanced registration is required.

Backpacking the Wonderland Trail

May 11 at 6pm | Zoom meeting

Are you longing for alpine meadows, close up mountain views, wildlife, and pristine natural beauty? Come enjoy some of the breathtaking landscapes in Mt. Rainier National Park through a photo presentation as Lisa shares about her 8 day, 93 mile backpacking trip on the Wonderland Trail. Learn tips for planning and packing for the trip as well as favorite spots along the trail.

About the presenter

Lisa Hayek is a Pacific Northwest native  who grew up hiking and backpacking in the area. Some of her other favorite backpacking trips have been a 77-mile loop in the Olympics and both 20+ mile sections of the Olympic Coast. Lisa lives in Federal Way, WA with her husband, 2-year-old daughter, and two cats. She works at REI where she teaches classes and workshops and helps people prepare for their outdoor adventures. She frequently takes her daughter hiking, backpacking, and camping and hopes to complete the Wonderland Trail with her one day. Lisa is the current chair of the Tacoma Hiking & Backpacking Committee.

Join physician and fellow Mountaineer Lisa McPeak as she shares what should be in a well-stocked first aid kit for your next hike, backpack, or climb. This session will highlight what individual items may be needed in your kit and why. The basis for this presentation is from both MOFA and WFA, as well as past trauma medical certification.

Backcountry Cooking Workshop

Tired of dry, salty, and expensive packaged meals? Want to branch out to something else besides chili mac and stroganoff? Learn how to elevate your outdoor meals with Chef Corso of MONTyBOCA.
