Our Introduction to Flatwater Packrafting course is a basic introductory course that teaches you how to safely and proficiently packraft on lakes and slow rivers, as well as how to backpack with your packraft.  The course begins September 3, 2025 and is suitable for anyone who desires an introduction to packrafting equipment, gear, and paddling skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Course and Field Trip Material

The course includes one lecture and three outings:

  • An evening lecture to introduce and try on gear, and cover basic skills
  • A paddling field trip on a lake to learn and practice skills
  • A paddling field trip on a class I river
  • An overnight hiking-paddling-camping experience trip
  • Short videos and resources will also be assigned outside the lecture and trips

The course will start with a lecture at the Seattle Program Center, then progress to a lake day at Magnuson Park, then to a flatwater river, and finish off with an overnight trip.
