When we go outside together, we not only increase our connection to each other, but also to the natural world. This is why, at our core, Mountaineers are not just learners and adventurers, but also advocates and conservationists. We fall in love with places and then do our utmost to conserve that experience for others.
Donations to The Mountaineers support a volunteer-powered community that activates lifelong defenders of our lands and waters.
We are looking for 300 Mountaineers like you to make a donation by May 31 to support our mission and community. As of today, we are more than halfway there. Can we count on you?
In a season of threats to the outdoor experience, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support land managers and work with recreation partners across the country to keep public lands in public hands. Your advocacy has an impact and your donations make a difference.
Here are a few ways that we’ve made a difference this year:
- Our advocacy efforts contributed to the passage of the EXPLORE Act in December, which improves recreation management and outdoor access on public lands.
- In February and March, Mountaineers members sent more than 3,000 messages to members of Congress sharing the importance of investment in federal lands.
- This spring, Mountaineers staff represented our community at a congressional briefing on outdoor recreation and in meetings with national lawmakers and administrative officials in Washington, D.C.
- We spoke up to minimize cuts to outdoor recreation and conservation in our state budget during a tight budget year.
Informed by our passion for the natural world, bolstered by our legacy as outdoor leaders, and funded by the generosity of donors, The Mountaineers has an outsized ability to effect change and protect public lands.
“Mountaineers are intimately connected to the landscapes where you recreate, and you’re often the first to notice when something is wrong with those places. You can speak with authority on issues like the impacts of climate change in the mountains, and that voice is really necessary and valuable to the conversation.”
Your donation of any amount will support The Mountaineers mission of protecting the outdoor experience for future generations.
