Based on feedback received from members, volunteers, guests, board directors, officers and staff, the Board of Directors approved revisions of several existing Board Policies throughout 2019. Learn about those updates and what they mean for the organization.

Board Policy Update Project 2019

Based on feedback received from members, volunteers, guests, board directors, officers, and staff, the Board of Directors approved revisions of several existing Board Policies throughout 2019. These views were balanced with the views of all other members, the governing documents, mission, and strategic plan of The Mountaineers, and state and federal laws. These policies have been updated with our new logo and consistent formatting, and to assign policy holders.

Organizational changes, staff title changes and responsibilities, and current practices drove the need to update these policies. 

The Board Policies revised in 2019 all have:

  • The new Mountaineers logo
  • Consistent font/formatting
  • Assigned "Policy Owners" who, together with the Governance Committee, are  responsible for policy housekeeping going forward. 

Of course we’d be thrilled if you read all of the Board Policies, but if you only have a little time, we’d recommend bringing your attention to:

Policy maintenance is an important part of any organization, and we do our best to make sure our policies reflect the current practices within The Mountaineers. To that end, be aware of other recent policy changes:

Board Policies Created and/or Revised Prior to 2019

If you have areas of specific interest, such as contributing a blog with digital photos (Board Policy - Copyright for Volunteer-generated Materials 2019), leading/participating in a ski trip to Japan (Board Policy - Global Adventures 2019), or starting a fundraiser for a new Teaching and Gathering Place (Board Policy - Fundraising Policies 2019), etc. please refer to the appropriate board policies  -not only those recently updated- for further information.
