10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

After hiking and backpacking all my life, I became interested in climbing Mt Baker. I went on a guided climb and was hooked. I ran into a Mountaineer at the local AAI store while looking for climbing gear (I am a hopeless gear junkie), who invited me to come to a meeting and apply to the climbing course.

What motivates you to get outside with us?

I have met some of my very best friends and climbing partners through the club. I love being with capable people who are passionate about being in the alpine and are fun to be with.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

The first climb of Mt Baker I did with my fellow basic classmates, using our newly found skills.

Who/What inspires you?

My love for the mountains and the people who give so much to make our group so fantastic.

What does adventure mean to you?

Having a certain degree of unknown in a trip. Having some wildness there too. Testing your knowledge and skills. A mix and match of challenges and fun.

Lightning Round
Sunrise or sunset? Both!
Smile or game face? Rotate as needed.
What's your 11th essential?  My newest fave is the Gaia app on my phone.
Editor's Note: Mountaineers members enjoy DISCOUNTED ACCESS to the Gaia App.
Post-adventure meal of choice? Burger and sweet potato fries at the Trainwreck in Burlington. Preceded by a jalepeno popper.
If you could be a rockstar at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Guess I'll go big and say a rockstar alpinist. Think Ines Papert!
EDITOR'S NOTE: SADLY, SUE BENNETT PASSED AWAY IN JULY 2017 AS THE RESULT OF A CLIMBING ACCIDENT.
