A long and challenging gem of a scramble of into a remote and rarely visited area. Located beyond the Canyon Lakes and Totem Pass in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, perfect solitude awaits. Enjoy fantastic views of Dome Peak, Sinister Peak, and Agnes Mountain. It's 32 miles round trip with 10,000+ feet of elevation gain.

Big Four Ice Caves

An easy, 3 mile hike with 200 ft in elevation gain on a well maintained trail. The route crosses the South Fork Stillaquamish River in old growth forest with views of cascading waterfalls, mountains, and terminates at the base of a 4,000 ft sheer wall will massive avalanched snow deposits that forms caves by mid-summer.

A strenuous but rewarding climb to a high, massive and remote peak. While there are multiple approach options to Dome Peak, none of the approaches are easy. The rock ridge is exposed, so some parties have taken rock gear to belay and/or set up fixed rope(s). Times: 9-11 hr to camp, 6-8 hr camp to summit.

The Elwha to Hurricane Hill hike is a very strenuous, 12.4 mi round trip hike with 5,300 ft in elevation gain. The trail ascends through forest and breaks out in the meadows on Hurricane Ridge with views of the Olympics and Mount Olympus.

A climb of Glacier Peak via the Frostbite Ridge, Vista Glacier and Kennedy Glacier is an early season Basic Alpine Climb and a late season Intermediate Ice Climb with long approach, heaps of elevation gain, some Class 3 scrambling, steep snow and possibly a few pitches of ice climbing.

Start high and stay high on the Obstruction Point-Deer Park Trail with stunning views of Obstruction Peak, Elk Mountain, Maiden Peak, Green Mountain and Mount Olympus. A trip here can vary from moderate to very strenuous depending on your plan.

Grand Valley is a strenuous, 10-mile loop day hike with 2,400 feet of elevation gain. The trail descends through scenic Badger Valley to the Grand Creek junction before going up to Grand Lake and Moose Lake. From there it goes up steep switchbacks to a ridge and back to the trailhead.

Heather Park-Lake Angeles Loop

A strenuous loop hike that starts with hiking up to ridgeline at Second Top then to the Klahane Saddle with amazing views of the area surrounding Hurricane Ridge followed by a grinding drop to Lake Angeles and return back to the trailhead. It's nearly 13 miles and over 4,000 feet of elevation gain.

A 5-mile day hike with 1,700 feet of elevation gain up a steep avalanche chute to an open and rocky ridge with great views of Hurricane Ridge, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver.
Lake 22

Day Hiking & Snowshoeing
A moderate hike in summer and showshoe in winter off of the Mountain Loop Highway. Travel through old growth cedar forest along a cascading creek to a popular cirque lake at the base of Mount Pilchuck. The low elevation of this route means the trail is often hikeable with boots and traction devices for much of the winter season.

This route gains 7,000 feet in a distance of 5.5 miles, climbing the moderate Coleman Glacier, the top part of the Deming Glacier, and Roman Wall before reaching the flat summit plateau. Views from camp and the summit are spectacular. Times: 3-4 hr trailhead to camp, 6-9 hr camp to summit.

A moderate scramble of 10 miles round trip with 2,800 feet of gain off of the Mountain Loop Highway. Scramble Iodine Gulch to Bathtub Lakes. Turn around here or continue on then to the lookout on the summit of Mount Pilchuck.

Pacific Crest Trail: Suiattle River to Red Pass & White Pass

This wild 58-mile trail on the west side of Glacier Peak includes 38.4 miles on the Section K of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and is now very remote because of road and trail closures after a 2007 flood. But hardy souls will experience one of the best stretches of meadows and peak views in Washington state. Destinations include Vista Ridge, Mica Lake, Fire Creek Pass, Kennedy Ridge, Red Pass, and White Pass.

A short, steep, heavily rooted, and rocky 4-mile trail with 1,200 feet of elevation gain off the beaten path of the Mountain Loop Highway. It's a challenging hike on the quieter eastern flank of Mount Pilchuck to a pretty alpine lake with some great views along the way. This is a good hike to flex your navigation skills and keep them sharp.

An attractive basic climb on a remote peak along the Ptarmigan Traverse in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, close enough to Dome Peak to allow a two-peak itinerary.
South Coldwater Ridge

Hike to the up Coldwater Ridge where there are views of a volcanic landscape. It's 6.8 miles round trip with 1,525 feet of elevation gain to the Coldwater Peak Trail junction. For more mileage, continue on to the Coldwater Lake Trail or the Coldwater Peak Saddle.
SPIRE Rock

SPIRE Rock

A man-made rock formation at Sprinker Recreation Center outside of Spanaway, Washington. It was built by volunteers and the Army Corps of Engineers to promote rock climbing. It is a great facility for rock climbing education and training.
