There is no cell service at the trailhead.

Most providers have service through Granite Falls, about 15 minutes away. The Verlot Ranger Station is about 4 miles from the trailhead and Stephen will have a satellite device for emergency communication on site.

Mountain Loop Highway is paved and in good condition. The Lake 22 parking lot is graveled and you need a NW Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass to park in the lot which fills up early. Please plan to arrive before 8a, park in the Hemple Creek picnic area just past the trailhead, or on the shoulder of the road with other hikers. Lake 22 is an extremely popular trail!

Mountaineers requires 8 hours of service for a stewardship badge and Stephen plans a mid afternoon wrapup so that works out nicely. Please take direction from him as weather & other variables may affect specific plans for the day.

For registration and activity questions please contact Mountaineer lead Linda Martindell. On your day of service please contact Glacier Peak Institute lead Steven Colson . Contact info to be provided  to volunteers.

You'll find driving directions, local weather, trail description and recent trip reports  (great to share with the public!) at https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lake-22-lake-twenty-two

Be at the Lake 22 trailhead by 8a for a brief orientation. Then spend your day talking to the public about Mountain Loop Highway hiking trails, Leave No Trace principles, 10 essentials, trail safety and trail etiquette.

Steven Colson from Glacier Peak Institute (GPI) will provide on site training and act as your co Ambassador. A table, chairs, awning  and hand out materials will be provided.

This is the first of several August weekends where help is needed so watch for additional dates.

Bring your lunch, come prepared for a day outdoors and earn 8 hours stewardship credit while lending a much needed hand with this pilot project. WTA, Glacier Peak Institute, USFS and National Forest Foundation will thank you!
