Leader's notes: This ski trip is intended for Intermediate and Advanced x-c classic skiers who have the necessary ski skill set to ski at a moderate to faster pace, on intermediate and advanced trails for approx. 4-5 hours.  This trip is not suitable for any level of beginner skiers. We will set a steady and continuous moderate to fast pace, taking breaks when needed.

Leader Permission is required for this trip as there is only one ski leader, and we all have to have similar skill sets to ski together.

We will ski on easy (green), intermediate (blue), and advanced (black) groomed ski trails. The easy trails take us away from the lodge to ski on the more challenging trails. Intermediate ski skills of gliding, climbing and descending steeper groomed trails including wedge turns are required.

Please do not register until you have reviewed the notes, you are an intermediate or advanced x-c skier, you know for sure you are available for a ski weekend away,  and you are looking for lodging in or near downtown Spokane. See note on lodging at the end of this note.

This is part of a 3 Day X-C Ski Trip to Mt. Spokane

There are lots of great, reasonably priced VRBO's on the South Hill and in Kendall Yards in downtown Spokane. Registered skiers can choose to communicate with each other about shared rental housing opportunities for this Spokane Winter Weekend.

Seattle Times Review:

Mt. Spokane State Park Description

Spokane Nordic Association:

Mt. Spokane Nordic Ski Trail Map:

Mt. Spokane  is a very large and expertly groomed ski park with set classic tracks and a wide skating trail on every easy, intermediate, and advanced trail in the park. I think it is one of the best ski parks in Washington State.

Ski Skills required: the ability to ski 10-12 miles on intermediate and advanced trails with intermediate ski skills including climbing and descending steeper groomed trails including wedge turns.

All vehicles taken to the trailhead will require a WA State Snopark Pass. There is no additional trail fee.

Lodging: I can recommend staying in either hotels in downtown Spokane or a  VRBO on the South Hill or Kendal Yards in downtown Spokane. There are many VRBO,  hotel choices and quality restaurants to choose from downtown Spokane and the South Hill. For lodging options, check out this website:

The hotel zone nearest North Division Street on the north side of the river next to Riverfront Park is most convenient to driving the 45-60 minutes out to Mt. Spokane. There are many hotel choices right next to N. Division and the Spokane River. Look at ones with just a few floors as you want a hotel convenient to hauling in your ski gear from your car. Many of the hotels have multiple floors but provide luggage carts for getting your gear up to your room. Some lodging providers require 2-day minimum stay over weekends. Great VRBOs can be found on both the South Hill and Kendal Yards.

The x-c skiing will be led by Cheri Solien. Please direct questions to Cheri at Further information will be emailed as soon as registration closes on Jan 11.
