OVERVIEW

Do you think you know how to help people you care about with their mental health but have never received formal training? Let’s build on that groundwork, and level up. Join us for a highly interactive session diving deep into the gaps where we fall short as a society. This is a chance for a change in perspective where we can learn how to choose connection over comments, high-fives over happy hours, and slowing down over sending it.

This workshop will discuss:

  • The intersection of substance use & social circles and events.
  • Coping mechanisms & how injury/illness/mental health can affect them.
  • Triggering language we hear, and often use, every day and how to rephrase.
  • What to look out for on social media and how to respond.
  • Active listening while on and off the trail.
  • Comparison, as the sharer and the observer.

*This workshop does not cover crisis situations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course:

  • Leaders will know fundamental ways to help people in their community through substance use and mental health challenges.
  • Leaders will be equipped with techniques to use while recreating outdoors, or at home or in the office, to pay better attention to those in need, and to provide active support, focusing on connection.
