This weekend is about projecting trad routes that are harder than your on-site climbing ability. Applicants should be active volunteers in the Mountaineers and comfortable on-site leading 5.6-5.9 trad. Our goal is to match participants with single-pitch routes at and above their on-site grade, then provide them encouragement and tools they need to overcome the crux safely on top rope. Bonus points if you follow up with a true lead!

Single Rack:

  • Passive protection (e.g. 1 set of nuts)
  • Active protection (e.g. 1 set of Black Diamond cams, size 0.4 to 3 or equivalent camalots)
  • Alpine draws (e.g. 6 sewn runners with 12 wiregate carabiners)
  • Self-braking belay device like Black Diamond ATC Guide or Petzl Reverso
