Ozette Triangle Car Camp

Experience the splendor of the Ozette Triangle as a day hike, camping Saturday night at the spacious Lost Resort at Lake Ozette, where amenities include a store, potable water, a nice restroom and hot showers. Sunday we will hike the nine-mile Ozette Triangle, taking us by Cape Alava, where we visit the Indian Museum, Wedding Rocks, where we see ancient Indian petroglyphs, and Sand Point, where we can see a panoramic coastal view from atop a small hill at the point, as well as a magnificent sandy beach.

At the Lost Resort Campground, the spacious campsites accommodate up to four people each and two cars, for a cost of $25 per night.  The first person to arrive will reserve and pay for the number of campsites needed to accommodate all the people (up to 12) registered for the car camp.  As the others arrive, they will locate the reserved campsites from a note by the front door of the store and pay their share of the camp fee to the person who paid for it.

After setting up camp, we will have a camp dinner together, followed by smores around the campfire.  Sunday morning we will have a camp breakfast together, break camp and drive to the Ozette Trailhead parking lot, where each car must display a National Park Pass.  Then we will hike the three mostly level miles to Cape Alava, where we visit the Indian Museum.  Then we hike about one level mile on the beach to Wedding Rocks, where we have lunch and explore the Indian petroglyphs there at low tide.  Then we continue two miles on the beach to Sand Point, where  we can enjoy the panoramic view from atop the hill at the point, including the long sandy beach to the south.  Then we hike three mostly level miles back to Ozette and head home.  On the drive home.  On the drive home we have the option to stop for dinner at the Breakwater Cafe in Clallam Bay, which has a magnificent view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.  Participants in this car camp should expect to arrive home late Sunday evening.

Signup for this car camp is by registering for the Ozette Triangle day hike (click on the green button below).  For further information, contact car camp leader Dick Hayek, richardahayek@gmail.com or 253-952-1210.
