Olympia MAC Ages 14-18

Olympia MAC Ages 14-18

Youth aged 14-18 are invited to join a community of other outdoor enthusiasts. No experience or skills are needed to join; we will teach all the skills necessary to participate in activities. MAC programs meet twice monthly. MAC will focus on Rock Climbing most of the time, but will also include mountaineering, scrambling, snow activities, backpacking, and other essential outdoor skills.

YOUTH-DRIVEN, ADULT-GUIDED

MAC has programs throughout the year that provide outdoor adventures and skills for youth ages 14-18 who want to learn new outdoor skills and make lasting friendships with fellow adventurers. This program will allow youth to develop skills in various settings as activities rotate with the seasons and include outings for all interests. Activities include rock climbing, mountaineering,  scrambling, hiking, snow travel, camping, and more! This is an excellent opportunity to meet new friends while enjoying the outdoors!  Parents are not required to attend outings, but we encourage parents to join us, as this is an excellent opportunity for you to get outside with your MAC members!

TYPICAL OUTINGS

TRIPS:

Mountaineers staff, leader volunteers, and parents plan and lead trips, which are held one weekend per month, including overnighters. These trips focus on the topic of the season and range from single-day trips to multiple-day overnight trips. Parents are welcome on trips and are encouraged to participate as leaders (we'd like a minimum of 2 parent chaperones per trip), but they are not required.

MEETINGS:

Students meet in Olympia on the first or second Thursday of each month to learn about various outdoor topics related to the season. These meetings are also used for trip planning and Q&A.

GEAR

Outdoor equipment can almost always be borrowed from The Mountaineers when given enough notice (usually 1–2 weeks before the trip). If you need gear, don't hesitate to contact the trip leader once you are aware of this need, and we will do our best to get you geared up.
