The holder of this badge has successfully completed our Foundation of Instruction course, demonstrating proficiency in the following skills:
Risk Management
- Identify and categorize risks
- Mitigate risks
- Engage your team as risk managers
Improve your risk management skills through experience and analysis
Education & Instruction
- Learn concepts, theories and tips for facilitating your student’s learning.
- Anticipate your students’ needs and address them
- Design your physical space to support student learning
- Identify ways that your own assumptions, bias, and experience can interrupt student learning
- Write clear learning objectives and use them to focus your teaching
- Structure your lessons in ways that use multiple modalities and give students control over their learning
- Give and receive meaningful feedback
Equity & Inclusion
- Define common terms used to discuss Equity & Inclusion
- Integrate sharing pronouns and land acknowledgements into your programs
- Recognize the presence of bias and discrimination in the outdoors
- Foster psychological safety amongst your participants and students
- Intervene as an active bystander
WHAT DOES THIS BADGE ALLOW ME TO DO?
This continuing education badge will help volunteers become more effective instructors at Mountaineers courses. Course instructors, course leaders, and anyone leading or instructing a clinic or seminar will benefit from this course. This course may be required by some committees to instruct.
HOW DO I GET THIS BADGE?
COURSES
Primarily available as eLearning Courses. Occasional in-person opportunities to complete some or all of the content may become available, such as at our Leadership Conference.
- Completion of Foundations of Risk Management
- Completion of Foundations of Education & Instruction
- Completion of Foundations of Equity & Inclusion
- Passing score for the Foundation of Instruction Final Quiz
Equivalency: We don't offer equivalency at this time but if you believe you have met the core competencies, please email info@mountaineers.org
