TAC MAC Ski/Splitboard Touring Skills - Kendall: Knobs, Lakes & Loops

This is a trip for those who want to learn or practice backcountry ski skills. We will explore the Paradise area with an eye for identifying avalanche terrain, evaluating conditions, and choosing good runs as we go.

6:30am carpool from Tacoma

This is a backcountry ski trip. Participants must already be proficient downhill skiers. This is not a trip to learn how to ski.

This trip is designed for those who already ski, who want to learn how to ski backcountry, or those who already ski backcountry.

We will practice skills for ski touring, including:

  • Efficient skinning movements
  • Track setting
  • Kick turns
  • Transitions
  • Avalanche safety
  • Group management and decision-making in a bc ski setting

Back up destination will be Paradise if conditions are not satisfactory at Snoqualmie Pass

Required Equipment

Participants must source their own backcountry set up. The Mountaineers does not have any available for loan.

  • Skis with a touring binding (frame binding, tech binding, or shifts are all acceptable) or splitboard
  • Ski touring boots with a walk mode, or snowboard boots if splitboarding
  • Ski helmet
  • Goggles
  • Skins
  • Poles

Avalanche safety equipment (The Mountaineers may be able to source these for you)

  • Avalanche beacon
  • Probe
  • Snow shovel

Other:

  • Appropriate clothing for snow travel
