Summer Camp - Survivor Week 2 - Tacoma - 2023

Youth Program

Wilderness Week

Join us for a week of adventure and outdoor skill-building!

Kids entering grades 1-7 (ages 6-13) join The Mountaineers for 5 days full of adventure! Campers will have a chance to try a variety of outdoor activities, including: climbing, hiking, navigation,  first aid, knots and rope skills, arts and crafts, fire building, shelter building, and other basic wilderness skills.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Camp runs from 8:30am-4:30pm each day
  • Wednesday is our hiking field trip (we will charter a bus to our destination)
  • On Friday we meet at Pt. Defiance Park
  • Day Camp is for kids age 6-13. Kids will be divided into different counselor groups based on age.
  • Teens age 14+ who have climbing and outdoor experience are welcome to volunteer! Email sarahh@mountaineers.org for more info.
  • Those signing up for multiple weeks should be aware that Survivor Week 2 will have generally the same curriculum as Survivor Week 1. It is simply the second instance of "Survivor" themed camp and does not necessarily represent a progression in skills. Campers do NOT need to have taken Week 1 in order to take Week 2.

Where does Camp start and end each day?

Monday - Thursday: Drop-off and pick-up at Tacoma Mountaineers (2302 N 30th St, Tacoma). Please come in the front door.

Friday: Drop-off at the Rustic Picnic Area (near rhododendron garden) at Point Defiance Park, pick-up at Owen Beach at Point Defiance Park.

What does a typical day at Camp look like?

Each day is filled with fun curriculum to teach your camper how to be safe while exploring the outdoors. On the first day of camp, we spend the morning getting to know our campers, playing games, jumping into outdoor skills, and having fun! On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, we stay at The Mountaineers and work on climbing and outdoor survival skills, such as first aid, map and compass, rope and rescue skills, using the 10 essentials, fire safety, and more. On our Wednesday field trip day, campers will take a bus to the North Bend area for a day hike (typically Rattlesnake Ledge, Little Si, or Dirty Harry's Balcony.) We will wrap up our camp at Point Defiance Park on Friday, with a morning hike, a picnic lunch, beach time, games, and awards in the afternoon.
