Paddling in the San Juan's is GORGEOUS! This will be an overnight clinic, teaching principals that you may apply to the conditions of your choice.  We will cover basic kayak camping equipment (vs car camping), use of dry bags, how to pack your boat for proper trim, carrying water, launching and landing a loaded boat, and how to perform rescues with loaded boats. We will also touch on using currents to your advantage while paddling in the San Juans. An online zoom meeting will be held before the paddle; see meeting place and time for zoom date and time. A link will be sent to registrants a few days prior to the meeting. Paddlers should have a very good assisted rescue (both sides).  Students may use this paddle as a second student paddle if they have very good rescue skills. The conditions can be a bit "sporty" for some student paddlers. We will be traveling with currents as well, and will cover paddling in currents during the zoom presentation. This event is part of the Tacoma DP weekend of events in the area.  We will likely return to the launch site Friday morning around 1 PM. There will be a $10/vehicle overnight parking fee at Washington Park.  We will be camping at Pelican Beach, which is DNR land, and has fees to camp.  Pelican Beach has composting pit toilets.  Bring your own TP and hand sanitizer.

Open to mountaineers members only.

As per all of my trips...please no alcohol or recreational pharmaceuticals.  Thanks.

Washington Park, Anacortes, boat launch. Ready to paddle at 3 PM.

Zoom meeting May 28, 7-9 PM.
