This is an overflow class for the Saturday Rock Gardening Class. Saturday class must fill to 2/3 capacity before this class will go.
Introduction to kayak rock gardening. Clinic will cover an on-beach discussion and on-water training in safety issues, equipment, and proper technique of kayaking amongst partially submerged obstacles. Clinic will be held between Freshwater Bay and Crescent Bay. Ideal conditions would be 2 foot of swell, and wind below 10 knots. Subject to cancellation if conditions are too extreme. Although not the intent, boats often get scratched during this clinic. There may be a parking fee (less than $10, bring cash) if we launch at Crescent Beach. Open to members only.
Leader permission required.
Must have taken and Eddies and Current clinic or equivalent.
This course has no scheduled activities.
Required; Sea kayak with floatation in both ends, dry suit, properly fitting spray skirt, properly fitting PFD, paddle, helmet, neoprene gloves, bilge pump, lunch and a drink, sun protection, dry clothes in dry bag, snacks to eat while on the water.
If you have an inflatable float bag or paddle float please bring it.
Recommended equipment: all of the mountaineers paddling essentials.
