This is an awesome hike that will take us up to First Burroughs past Shadow Lake and the Edmonds Glacier lookout. We will continue up to Second Burroughs and enjoy the views, a snack and a good rest before descending to First Burroughs, down to Five Way Junction and then up and out to the Fremont Fire Outlook for more spectacular views, another snack and a bit more rest. Then we will descend from Fremont to Five Way Junction and back to the parking lot via Sourdough Ridge. We get both high places AND a lookout!!!
This is a challenging hike, especially if it is sunny. The total distance will be about 11 miles and a total elevation gain of about 2600ft. We will generally hike together, but not on top of each other and at a 1.7-2.2mph pace (slower up and a little faster down) with some rest stops on the way up and down.
Again, this is a challenging hike, especially in sunny weather, so please do not sign up for this one if you have not done a similar hike in the past 30 days. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss further.
We will meet at the Sunrise Parking Lot at 7:30am and after brief introductions, plan to be on the trail at 7:45am. This timing will mean that you will need to be through the Sunrise gate before 7am so you will not need a reservation. Note that if you do not enter the gate before 7am, you will miss the group. We are starting early because this is an exposed hike the whole way and can get pretty crowded later in the morning.
