DRIVING DIRECTIONS

From A topo map image that shows how to get to parking for our Stevens Lodge from Highway 2 and the PCT trailheads.SR-2 East: Take the first right turn into the ski area parking lots as you reach the pass.
From SR-2 West: Take the last left turn into the ski area parking lots just before you leave the pass.
(These parking lots are just below Tye Creek Lodge and the Brooks Chair Terminal.)

  • Stay to the left, entering Parking Lot #3 and go through the long parking lot and around a hairpin turn into Parking Lot #4, the topmost parking area.
  • Park against the uphill "snow bank" side of the parking lot.
  • At the far end of the parking lot (southwest corner), walk up to and turn right on the footpath/snow cat road.
  • Continue up the short, steep road for 300 yards. Stevens Lodge is the 4 story, dark red building at the first sharp, 90-degree bend in the road.
  • Look for The Mountaineers sign on the balcony and come on in!

WALKING FROM THE PCT

From the South Trailhead: Walk west through the parking lot to the base area. From Granite Peaks Lodge, follow the "Foot Traffic" signs, then pass to the right of the Hogsback Express chairlift. Walk uphill and west towards the maintenance building passing the Skyline Express and Brooks chairlifts on your right and crossing one bike trail. Walk the road on the uphill side of the maintenance building to the first sharp left bend and then up to our lodge.
From the North Trailhead: Walk to and cross the pedestrian overpass to the base area on the south side of SR-2.

FAQ (with Answers!)

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Along with your skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing gear, bring lunch and snacks, a sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight or headlamp, towel and any other personal items. We do not have a washer and dryer so extra clothes are good.

Q: Are kids allowed?
A: Kids under 5 are not allowed unless special exceptions are given by the lodge hosts. We do ask that you take your kids home at the end of the weekend.

Q: Are dogs allowed?
A: Unfortunately no dogs are allowed at Stevens Lodge at this time.

Q: Can my group stay at the lodge?
A: Yes, we would love to host your group at our lodge! See Group Reservations for more information.

Q: How do I get there?
A: View the driving directions above or find the lodge on Google maps.

Q: What can I do while I am staying at the lodge?
A: In winter, downhill skiing at Stevens Pass Ski Area (ski-in, ski-out from the lodge!), cross-country skiing at the Stevens Pass Nordic Center, snowshoeing, especially the nearby Grace Lakes, and backcountry skiing one of the many routes near Stevens Pass. Note that the ski has an Uphill Traffic Policy.
In summer, mountain biking in the Stevens Pass Bike Park and hiking on the PCT and many other nearby trails. You can also enjoy reading a good book by our wood-burning fireplace.

Q: Do you have discounted lift tickets to the Stevens Pass Ski Area and Stevens Pass Bike Park?
A: Unfortunately, Stevens Pass Mountain Resort no longer offers their bulk lift ticket program, so we are not able to offer discounted lift tickets for the 2018-19 season.

Q: Is the Lodge heated?
A: The Lodge is indeed heated but that does not compensate for the lack of insulation in the dorms. Be prepared to sleep with a hat on because it can get a little chilly upstairs!

Q: We’re on our honeymoon.
A: Congratulations! The Lodge might not be the right fit for this special and intimate time. You can find more private accommodations in Leavenworth.

Q: Can I reserve a particular bunk?
A: Sorry, but you choose your bunk when you arrive. All the bunks are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Q: The Mountaineers is a volunteer organization. What can I do to help?
A: We ask you to do at least one chore like cleaning, shoveling snow or stomping the fire path for each night you are at the lodge. We also have work parties every fall to prepare the lodge for the upcoming winter season.

Q: Does The Mountaineers have a flu policy?
A: Yes, The Mountaineers seeks to provide the most enjoyable, safe environment for all program center and lodge guests and members. View our flu policy.

Q: Do you provide WiFi?
A: There's no WiFi at the lodge. We hope that you'll come for the "unplugged" mountain experience. Providing WiFi on the mountain is very expensive and most guests have their own mobile data. Check your carrier for availability in the Stevens Pass area.

Q: Can I charge my cell phone?
A: Yes, the lodge has electricity! In addition to normal electrical outlets, we have a USB charging station with room for up to 30 devices. Bring your own USB charging cable.

Q: Can I cook my own meals?
A: During winter weekends, we provide Saturday breakfast with a Friday night stay, and Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast with a Saturday night stay. You are welcome to use the kitchen (pots, pans, etc.) to cook dinner on Friday night and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. During the summer PCT stays, we provide a simple dinner and breakfast with each night's stay. You are welcome to use the kitchen--check with the cook first. We do ask that you do your own dishes when you're done. The Stevens Pass Ski Area also has many fine eating establishments at their base area lodges.

Q: I'm hiking the PCT, can I have packages sent to the lodge?
A: Our lodge has no mailing address, but you can send packages to Stevens Pass Mountain Resort or the post office in Skykomish, WA

Fun Facts About Stevens Lodge

  • Originally only half of its current size, the lodge used to be a little cozier when it only had the living room and kitchen. The front half of the building that is now the dinning area was added a couple of years later.
  • Until 1977 folks had to use an outhouse behind the building. At one point the outhouse was on such a steep incline that a cable was put in to help people get there.
  • Half-inch cables hold the lodge to the mountain. However as the snow accumulates, the cables are loosened - not tightened - due to the downward pressure of the snow on the cables. The turnbuckles are located on the downhill side of the building’s second floor.
  • There have been a couple of seasons where you could ski right over the cabin.
  • The upright wooden poles on the back fire escape were the original poles from the first chairlift at Stevens Pass.
  • In an effort to embrace one of The Mountaineer's core principles, we recently reduced the lodges environmental impact by converting all of our toilets to low-flow in addition to raising awareness of water conservation at the lodge. This has saved nearly 40,000 gallons of water annually and lowered the water bill from $8,400 to $2,600.
  • The "W" on the dining room wall does not represent west. It is for a person who spoke at the lodge during those crazy 70s.
  • Our neighboring cabins all have long-standing family histories, each representing at least three generations.
  • The road that the lodge in on is actually owned by the Washington DOT, not the U.S. Forest Service. It is an access road to the Grace Lakes area, primarily for avalanche control work. The ski area maintains it for the DOT.

volunteer

Our lodge at Stevens Pass is run and maintained almost entirely by volunteers. We schedule work parties every fall to get together and prepare the lodge for the upcoming season. If you would like to join the family and volunteer, or simply get more information about helping out, please contact StevensLodge@outlook.com.
