Behind The Shot: Photographing Washington State Parks

Behind The Shot: Photographing Washington State Parks

Behind the Shot is a new speaker series of the Photography Committee.
1 ( 6 capacity)

Buckle up your seat belts for a photographic road trip through Washington’s State Parks with photographer and writer Heidi Walker. A native of Washington State, Heidi grew up exploring the state’s public spaces. Recently she has turned her camera lens to capture the variety of landscapes and adventures contained in the parks for her book “The Photographer’s Guide to Washington State Parks”. She began her project “because these special places I grew up in deserve to be photographic destinations in their own right.”

For this presentation, Road Trip through the Lens, Heidi has created themed road trips through several parks exploring Washington’s history, flora, fauna, geology, culinary specialties, and just pretty scenery. Along the way she’ll give you hints and tips to help guide you on you own photographic adventure.

Heidi has been surrounded by art her entire life, with a photographer father and a painter mother. They spent every vacation traveling National Parks in the US & Canada to visually capture their beauty. She grew up with the understanding that the outdoors and art go together naturally. Heidi has since shared this understanding through classes offered at the Mountaineers and on private workshops.
