From the Presenter, Jim Burke- Mountaineer

If you are anything like me, you were drawn to The Mountaineers for the many outdoors activities and the fellowship that it offered.  In over 30 years as a member I had the pleasure and opportunity to learn and participate in many wonderful and fulfilling outdoor adventures.  From climbing to sea kayaking, hiking, scrambling, sailing, backpacking, mountain biking, cross country skiing and ski mountaineering, I have enjoyed the outdoor environment.  Now in my 70s my desire remains but how do I continue those activities I love? We are all faced with a crisis of chronic diseases and obesity no matter what our age.  I will share the data and  information I wish had known in my 30s, 40, and 50s about health, fitness and diet that would have increased my performance then and made it easier continue those activities as I aged.

Let me share with you some of the knowledge I acquired from practicing medicine as a physician assistant for 30 years and as a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.  I will introduce you to the Blue Zones, whose lifestyle choices result in the longest living populations in the world. I will talk about time and nutrient/calorie restricted eating which is popular right now.  We will cover genetics and epigenetics as it influences healthy life expectancy.  We will also talk about the Microbiome and its influence on the immune system. Please join us and learn how you can take charge of your health.

Zoom link information will be sent to all on the roster about 24 hours ahead of time. If you miss registering by then, email me and I will add you to roster and send you link information.
