Prerequisites:

  • MAC conditioning hike series badge. This requires attendance at 3 or more conditioning hikes throughout the year, at minimum. Leaders will award the badge as they assess student fitness levels. 
  • Attendance at the MAC Ultralight & Long-Distance Backpacking Skills Workshop
  • WFA course and WFA badge.
  • "Staying Found" or "Wilderness Navigation Course" and a badge representing completion of these courses. 
  • Basic Backpacking Skills badge, which can be gained through participation on standard MAC backpacks and demonstration of the skills listed on the page at the link in this bullet. 
  • Leaders for these trips will assess student fitness levels throughout conditioning hikes and other MAC activities. If you are looking to sign up for these, make it your mission to do as much hiking as possible throughout the year. 

Students must have demonstrated fitness throughout other MAC activities and may be asked to answer certain questions to give the leader an idea of their fitness/ability/experience level.  Participants will be chosen at the trip leaders discretion and the above are minimum requirements which do not guarantee a space on the trip.
