Seattle MAC - Climbing Trip - Vantage (Frenchman Coulee)

An weekend climbing trip to the stalwart crags of the Frenchman Coulee AKA Vantage. This trip has prerequisites and registration limitations. See leaders notes for details.

Registration: Students may register for either this OR the Tieton trip at first. In the final week preceding the trips, students registered for one already may register for the other if space is left on the roster. 

Prerequisites:

New MAC students wishing to attend this trip may sign up without having attending a climbing 101 workshop or learning to top rope belay, just this once. Future climbing trips will have prerequisites. 

For fall climbing trips: Attendance on at least one Climbing 101 workshop and at minimum, competence with top rope belaying skills. Top rope belaying badge.

Required Equipment

All group climbing gear (ropes, anchor hardware, trad gear, slings/quickdraws) will be provided by MAC. The following personal gear is the responsibility of the participants. Climbing gear can be borrowed from MAC (contact MAC manager), camping gear can be borrowed from the gear library (contact gear library manager - gearlibrary@mountaineers.org).

  • Climbing shoes
  • Harness that fits over the clothing you climb in
  • Helmet
  • Belay device
  • Backpack or bag that holds all of your gear

  • Small duffel bag for overnight gear
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Tent
  • Pack cover or plastic bag for water repellence
  • Wool/synthetic socks (minimum of three pairs)
  • Boots (worn in with sturdy tread, seams, and laces)
  • Shorts (synthetic)
  • T-shirt (avoid cotton and save one for the ride home)
  • Long sleeve shirt (synthetic)
  • Long underwear (synthetic)
  • Warm Jacket (fleece or wool)
  • Warm pants (fleece or wool)
  • Waterproof shell (jacket and pants, breathable and a hood on the jacket)

 

  • Stocking cap (wool or synthetic)
  • Brimmed hat
  • Gloves/mittens
  • Bandana or buff
  • Camp shoes
  • Sunglasses (polarized, broad spectrum UV protection)
  • Bowl, Cup, Spoon
