Surf and Camping Weekend

Seminar

Surf and Camping Weekend - Hobuck Beach & Neah Bay

Intro to the Surf Zone. This activity is aimed at paddlers who are comfortable sea kayaking and want to get surf zone experience for the fun of surfing or to safely launch and land during coastal trips.

  • Sea Kayak IV
  • Challenging
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 3 ft

Hobucks Campsite.  Time TBA

The surf zone is exhilarating and intimidating all at the same time and knowing how to handle yourself and your boat is critical to having fun in a safe manner both for you and those around you.

This clinic is for folks who want to learn or refresh their skills in the surf zone. We will spend time on safety and etiquette, boat control and handling in the "soup zone". We will also learn how to bring a kayak to shore without being surfed as well as beginning to surf. My goal is for you to have a massive smile on your face while learning so all activities will be challenge by choice.

Participants must  be comfortable paddling and swimming in a dynamic environment and have  ideally taken a class in edging and bracing as well as forward/reverse sweeps and ruddering. The surf zone will hone those skills for sure!

If you questions or are unsure if you have the skills to take this class please contact me.

Required Equipment

A helmet is required in addition to the usual SK gear. If you don't own a kayak specific helmet a bike helmet will suffice. Unlike other activities we will minimize what we carry on and in our boats as King Neptune loves to grab gear!
