Sailing Committee Seminars - Online Classroom

Join us for a virtual presentation by Vessel Traffic Control on navigating Puget Sound waters in recreational vessels.

  • Easy

This informative online presentation will be via Zoom on Tuesday, September 19th from 6:30-8pm PST.  Participants will receive a zoom link a few days prior to the presentation.

We are thrilled to have representatives from The Vessel Traffic Center - Puget Sound share their knowledge with us.  The Vessel Traffic Center monitors the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Rosario Strait, Admiralty Inlet, and Puget Sound south as far as Olympia. Since 1979, the U.S. Coast Guard has worked cooperatively with the Canadian Coast Guard in managing vessel traffic in adjacent waters.  Together, the Vessel Traffic Centers communicate via a computer link and dedicated telephone lines to advise each other of vessels passing between their respective zones.

You will learn the rules of navigating in Puget Sound waters, tracking systems used to monitors vessels, what a ships captain sees from the bridge (or not!), moving through and across the separate zone, and strategies for sharing the water.  There will be time for Q&A at the end.
