CHS 2 Hike - Thompson Point

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Thompson Point

CHS-2 graduation hike led at a 2-2.5 mph pace. We'll travel along the Granite Creek Connector to get warmed up, then take an exploratory look at the route to Thompson Point. Next, we'll backtrack to Thompson Lake basin to celebrate with a dip in the lake. The hardest part (mentally) will be regaining the ridge afterward. You'll have a second chance for a lake wade at Granite Lake. You got this.

  • Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 18.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 4,942 ft
  • Pace: 2.2-2.5 MPH

We will make our way along the Granite Creek Connector up a level, shaded path to join the Granite Lakes trail and meander up toward the Granite Lakes / Thompson Lake junction where we'll take our first longer break. From there, we'll head north to an abandoned logging road that will take us up to Thompson Point. We'll then backtrack and drop to Thompson Lake where we'll have a longer break for food and a wade/swim if you like.

After rejuvenating our feet, we'll regain the ridge and head back the way we came, turning left at the junction to visit Granite Lakes (adding 1.4 miles to our total) for another break and filter/wade for anyone desiring a second chance for a dip, and then retrace our footsteps back to the cars knowing we've just completed our CHS-2 graduation hike! Woo hoo!

Early Tuesday series continues with Court. Meet at the lower Mailbox parking area (roadside) at 6:15 a.m. ready to walk. We'll take 2 cars the .7 miles beyond Mailbox to the Granite Creek Connector TH which has very limited parking. After intros and stretching, we'll start hiking by daybreak, at 6:30.
