CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Summerland, Panhandle Gap & Indian Bar

Mt. Rainier Campout Key Exchange Hike on the Wonderland Trail! Our group will head south from the Fryingpan Creek/Summerland Trailhead while the other group will start from the Box Canyon Trailhead. This is a LONG hike that will take 10-11 hrs. CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (likely 2.0 - 2.4 mph) Note this was cancelled due to snow last year, so keep your fingers crossed and know that location may have to change.

  • Mileage: 16.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,500 ft
  • Pace: 2-3 MPH

This is a nice opportunity to experience part of the Wonderland Trail in one day, but expect a long day (previous years the trip took 10-11 hrs.)  We will plan on having short breaks every 60-90 minutes and a longer lunch break.

More will be communicated via email to registered participants to coordinate carpool and gear.  Depending on snow conditions, microspikes may be necessary.  We will also have water filters.

Because this is a key exchange hike, carpooling together is required to the trailhead. We'll carpool from La Wis Wis campground, exact departure time TBD but be prepared to start the hike at 6 or 6:30 in anticipation of the long hike.   i.e. get to sleep early Friday night!
