CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Snowgrass Flat, Goat Lake & Hawkeye Point

Graduation Hike - Hike in the stunning Goat Rocks Wilderness. Route includes a trip to Old Snowy, the highest view point on the Pacific Crest Trail. This is a late September hike chosen for the incredible fall colors, vistas filled with red, orange and yellow leaves as the berry plants get ready to go dormant for the winter. Possibly, we'll see the last of the late season wildflowers. CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Strenuous, Strenuous 3, Technical 3
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 18.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,800 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

This is a late September hike. On the 25th sunrise is 7AM and sunset is 7PM

We will start early on the trail and will need full charge headlamps

Display: NW Forest Pass

Berry Patch Trailhead: 6:45AM

On the trail 7:00AM

I am going to suggest camping at the trailhead the night before.

More details to follow

I have hiked this area a number of times. I chose this hike for late September because on a previous hike the fall colors and clear skies (fingers crossed) made it an especially magnificent outing. Old Snowy will provide stellar 360 views.
