If you successfully completed May's trips, you're ready for longer steady work and less gain. Because this is a distance challenge we'll keep the pace right around 2-2.25 mph for the bulk of the ascent, take a food and bio break before the climb to the lake, and 2.25-2.5 on the way out. Enjoy Otter Falls, Big Creek Falls, and a lovely meandering trail next to a raging river.

Poles are a good idea for several stream crossings, as well as gaiters. More will follow in the Hello Hiker email. Note that I'm a birder/naturalist so I'll be listening for migrating birds to point out and we will NOT be at a cutthroat pace given the distance but we WILL try to keep a steady pace throughout.

Early Bird Challenge. We will meet at 6:20 a.m.  at the trailhead roughly 9.2 miles beyond Mailbox (Exit 34). Be prepared to walk by 6:35 a.m. with gaiters, poles, rain gear, and plenty of water and snacks for a 7-hour trip. A Northwest Forest Pass required at the trailhead.
