CHS 2 Hike - Mount Teneriffe-Mount Si Traverse

We will hike to Mt. Teneriffe, then follow the connector trail to the top of Mount Si. Instead of coming back on the Mt Si trail (and stopping for everyone on the way up, we will backtrack to the Mt Teneriffe trail and return to the trailhead. Hike will cover ~15 miles and have elevation gain of >4500'. CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-2.5 mph)

Starting at the Mount Teneriffe trailhead, we will climb up Teneriffe, then take the connector to see the views from Mount Si.  Rather than facing the uphill crowds on the Mount Si trail, we will backtrack along the connector and take the Mount Teneriffe trail back to the trailhead. If the weather cooperates, we should see some magnificent views.  Total mileage will be close to 15 miles with significant elevation gain (>5000’ if you believe Gaia).

The trail is part old logging road, part typical trail with rocky areas.  The tops of Teneriffe and Si are pure rock; we will pick our path carefully.

Water sources may be dry this late in the season, so bring enough for the entire hike.  I will likely bring close to 3 liters, depending on the temperature forecast.  And please use electrolytes!

While I understand that everyone has their own personal hiking pace, I strongly prefer that we stay within sight/earshot of each other.  My average hiking speed is 2.2 to 2.4 mph: slower uphill than downhill.  We will take the usual breaks for clothing adjustments, bio-breaks, rest, etc. and a longer one for lunch, either on Teneriffe or Si.

We will meet at the Issaquah’s Tibbett’s Valley Skate Park at 6:45 AM and then carpool to the trailhead.  To get to the trailhead from Issaquah, drive east on I-90 to Exit 32 (436th Ave SE). Turn left to cross the freeway, then in 1/2 mile, turn left onto SE North Bend Way. In another 1/4 mile, turn right onto SE Mount Si Rd.  The Mount Teneriffe Trailhead parking lot will be on the left in 2.9 miles
