CHS 2 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Mount Aix

Hike to Nelson Ridge and 7,766 foot Mt. Aix. Stunning views of Mt. Adams, the Goat Rocks and Mt. Rainier.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,200 ft

For people staying at the CHS campout, we'll carpool and leave from there at about 8:00 AM and meet up with anyone coming from Seattle at the intersection of Highway 410 & Bumping Lake Road (Forest Service Road 18).

For people coming from Seattle Sunday morning, we'll all meet at 8:30 AM at the intersection of Highway 410 and Bumping River Road (Forest Service Road 18). This is 19 miles east of Chinook Pass. I'll be staying at the campout, so anyone coming from Seattle Sunday morning is on their own for arranging carpools.

This route requires some serious stamina with an elevation gain of 4,200 ft. in 6 miles. The rewards are outstanding views and few people. Expect to take at least 3 to 3-1/2 hours to reach the summit depending on weather. The final mile is a rough trail with a short scramble to the summit.

Bring along extra water as the route is exposed and may be quite hot.

I will be available by phone until late Saturday morning, then I'll be leaving for the campout. Cell phone coverage will be spotty and I may not be able to answer any calls.
