CHS 2 Hike - Cascade Pass & Sahale Arm

Third Time's a Charm? After being smoked out the last two years, hopefully we will be able to pull this hike off in 2025. If so, we are in for a treat. According to WTA, “of all the many incredible places in the North Cascades, this may very well be the finest to wander through.” And we sure do hope to wander through it with you. Assume a 2.0-2.2 MPH moving pace for this hike (slightly slower than our usual pace to better enjoy this hike).

PLEASE NOTE:  We dearly hope to get to do this hike, but if there is a fire in the area that either closes access or that forces us to make a decision due to smoke and wind direction, we will pivot in advance, likely by the Thursday night before the hike.

Additional details to follow in Hello Hiker email.

Your leaders will be camping Friday night in Marblemount to cut the travel time to an hour the morning of the hike; we recommend finding lodging near the trailhead to make for a shorter day.

If you choose to drive up Saturday, be aware that trailhead parking is limited and congested, so please carpool if you can.  We suggest you meet at and depart Ash Way Park & Ride in Lynnwood by 4:30 am to make it to the trailhead by 7:00 am.  Boots on the trail by 7:20 am.  The commute to the trailhead is long including 23 miles of  forest road, making it hard to estimate drive time, so err on the side of arriving early.  (The first time I attempted to lead this hike, one carpool got stuck behind a bear who wouldn't leave the gentle incline of the forest road and they arrived 30 minutes after the rest of us.)
