CHS 1 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 1 Hike - Granite Mountain

Participants must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19. CHS hike lead at CHS1 pace (1.5-2.0mph) With clear skies, we should see Mt Rainier, Kaleetan Peak, the Tooth and more!

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,629 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0 mph

Meet at the trailhead, geared up and ready to start hiking, at 8:30am.    Meeting location: Granite Mt. Trailhead, near Exit 47, I-90.

CHS hike led at a CHS 1 pace (1.5-2.0 mph). At 3,800ft of elevation gain, it is above the ascent range for July (1,500 - 2,500ft) and at 8.6 miles, it is below the range for distance (10-12 miles RT).  This translates to nearly 1,000ft of ascent per mile.

As of June 19th, there is still a lot of snow near the summit.  We'll monitor conditions and make necessary adjustments.  Please be prepared to carry micro spikes and poles.  Gaiters may also be useful.  If we determine there is too much snow, close to the date of hike, we may substitute for the Pratt Lake hike (11 miles and 2300ft of elev. gain).  Both Granite Mt and Pratt Lake share the same trailhead.

Please note that all participants must be fully vaccinated and agree to the Mountaineers Code of Conduct, which may be found here:  https://www.mountaineers.org/volunteer/leader-resources/covid-19-resources/covid-19-code-of-conduct/
