CHS 1 Hike - Chanterelle Trail

Hike the original fern and moss laden, forested Chanterelle Trail to a viewpoint of Lake Whatcom, Lookout Mountain, and Bellingham Bay. Continue on the 2019 built Chanterelle extension and Wickersham Truck Trail to an overlook of the San Juan Islands and beyond. CHS hike led at a CHS 1 pace (1.5-2.0 mph)

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 11.5
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft

Tentatively, plan on meeting at 6:30 am at Ash Way  P&R or at 7:15 am at the Chuckanut P&R, I-5 exit 231.  Alternatively meet at the Lake Whatcom Trailhead #2 at 8:15 AM.

While there is an outhouse at the trailhead, no parking pass is needed, as it is a county park.

The hike has some good statistics with 11.5 miles of distance and 2,500 feet of gain, but the trail slope and tread makes it feel considerably easier. Most of the hike is forested except for some of the 1.5 miles on the Wickersham Truck Trail. Despite being forested, don't expect any running strems to fill up water bottles.
