We'll do a nice forested clockwise loop starting and ending at the main Tiger 3 trailhead parking lot. We'll start by briefly roadwalking east to the less-used Highpoint Trail then follow it to the very pretty Lingering Trail, which we'll follow to its intersection with the Tiger Mountain Trail (TMT). From there will follow the TMT over Murat's Bridge to the West Tiger 3 trail, which will lead us back to our familiar starting point.
Because this is conditioner we will go even if the weather is less than perfect. Unsafe conditions will cancel.
All three leaders are recovering from injuries sustained in 2024. We will maintain the advertised pace but will not be setting any speed records.
About Backpacking Conditioners
This hike is part of an inaugural series of pre-season Backpacking Conditioners.
These events are intended to help current backpacking course students as well as course graduates build their fitness and endurance through the winter and spring months to tackle their summer objectives, as well as build community within the Mountaineers backpacking community.
Each of these hikes are tailored to meet specific pack weight, distance, and elevation goals which will steadily increase as the clinics move through the spring months. While it is encouraged to slowly increase these factors over time, feel free to join if you judge yourself as being capable of meeting these targets.
While these conditioning hikes are carefully planned, they are intended to support and develop the backpacking community within this organization. With this goal in mind, the pace will be slow to encourage conversation and bonding time, as well as develop aerobic fitness. If you are uncomfortable with an after-work hike in the dark, please be on the lookout for weekend hikes that are intended to occur in daylight hours.
We'll meet at 9:00am at near the big sign and benches next to the main Tiger 3 trailhead parking lot.
Required Equipment
Your usual day hiking or backpacking kit. To meet the weight targets, consider adding extra water or rocks that can be dumped if you find it to be too heavy.
