The Dosewallips River Trail follows the old road most of the way, so it is easy to follow and generally well maintained. It will be about 6.5 miles to the trailhead with a slow but steady gain of 1200 feet.
Plan for an early start on Saturday since this will be a holiday weekend. We'll move at a leisurely pace while everyone adjusts to their packs, admires the flowers, and enjoys a spring day in the wilderness. We'll be camping at the old Dosewallips campground. There are black bears in this area, so bear canisters are required. Sunday morning, we'll have breakfast, pack up, and hopefully be out around lunch. Please don't make afternoon plans since times are not guaranteed.

Basic Backpacking Field Trips are usually single-night trips along Easy or Moderate routes that do not present any unusual technical challenges.
