Backpack Leadership Course

This course is administered by the Seattle Backpacking Committee to help qualify backpackers to lead backpack trips through our branch. 

This course is rolling admission by the Backpacking Committee to facilitate tracking of the requirements necessary to obtain the Backpack Leader Badge. 

In order to graduate, the candidate needs to:

• Hold a current Wilderness First Aid Badge (WFA/WFR/MOFA) and Wilderness Navigation Badge
• Attend a New Hike/Backpack Leader Seminar (to be posted)
• Demonstrate backpacking skills experience OR hold the Basic Backpacking Skills Badge
• Demonstrate the ability to plan backpacking trips OR have the (retired) Advanced Backpacking Skills badge.
• Complete at least 3 Mountaineers hiking or backpacking trips within the last 3 years. Two of them should be backpack trips. 
• Complete a mentored trip
• Receive approval from the Backpacking Committee
