Top Rope Anchor Cleaning Clinic

Clinic

Top Rope Anchor Cleaning Clinic - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

An evening clinic to learn and practice cleaning top rope anchors, an essential skill in transitioning from climbing at the gym to the outdoors.

  • Casual

This evening "ground school" clinic teaches how to clean top rope or sport climbing anchors using a clean and lower sequence, an essential skill for transitioning from climbing at the gym to the outdoors.

It is aimed at climbers with some experience belaying and climbing on top rope outside that are looking to be able to clean the routes they climb (but are not necessarily looking to take a full outdoor leading or sport climbing course) as well as those wanting a refresher.

Learn the best practices including always remaining redundant through both anchor bolts and staying on belay.

Topics to be covered:

  • Introduction to top rope anchors using two bolts
  • Cleaning an anchor when a bight of rope can be pushed through rappel rings or quicklinks
  • Cleaning an anchor when a bight of rope cannot be pushed through anchor chains
  • Using lower-off hardware (mussy hooks, permadraws)
