Two day seminar on friction slab climbing techniques. Designed for Intermediate or Crag students but suitable for Basic grads wanting to improve rock skills. First day will be top-roped and part of it in mountain boots. Second day will be all in rock shoes and will offer opportunities to lead on bolted slabs. DIRECTIONS: 1. Initial "ground school" slabs - Through the bushes only a few yards off the road immediately E of R&D. 2. PARKING FOR SLABS: • Park at large gravel pullout directly across from Rat Creek bridge. Trail starts across the road and a few yards E. • GPS coordinates using Datum NAD83. Parking Area: N 47 32.690' W 120 44.701' MAIN LOWER SLAB: About 25 minutes above the road, and immediately left of one of the main Givler's Dome approach trails. The slabs are almost directly under Givler’s Dome. Two nice long routes suitable for friction in mountain boots, with good bolts in place for top rope anchors above. Ascend gully to the left of the slabs to reach the bolts. • GPS coordinates N 47 32.836' W 120 44.512' MAIN UPPER SLAB: Has five good routes, starting with 5.3/5.4 on the far right, progressing to 5.8/5.9 on the left. Good bolts above for top rope anchors. The routes are also superbly bolted for safe lead climbing - no grounders possible! An excellent place to learn friction leading. Reached from lower slabs by class 4 scramble up and left from bolts of lower slabs. Or do an end run by going into the large gully to the left, then ascending a few hundred feet to the upper slabs. Upper Slab: • GPS coordinates N 47 32.852' W 120 44.508'
