Friction Climbing: Basic - Leavenworth

A full day of top-roped friction instruction and climbing on beautiful granite slabs in scenic Leavenworth

  • Crag Rock Climb
  • Casual
  • Elevation Gain: 700 ft

Friction climbing for Basic Students. Icicle Canyon, Leavenworth. Limit 7.

Intended primarily for students in this year’s Basic Climbing Course (all branches + Seattle Intensive), but open to basic graduates,  basic equivalents, alpine scramblers, and anyone who has some top-roped climbing experience.

Friction is the technique used to climb slabs where there are no obvious hand or foot holds. Strength means nothing, hardware is superfluous; it’s all about balance and movement. You will learn slow motion dance on rock. All climbing will be safely top-roped.
