Assisted Braking Devices (ABDs) have become more common at the crags for an added layer of safety while belaying a climber on top rope or lead. In fact, in most local gyms in the Seattle/Bellevue area, you'll be required to belay with a Petzl Grigri.
In this session, we'll learn about the concepts that make ABDs 'safer' in climbing scenarios, pros and cons of using these devices, and get to handle different models of Assisted Braking Devices like the Petzel Grigri, the Edelrid Megajul, and the Black Diamond ATC Pilot.
Of course, students will be welcome to practice any skills with instructors and peers prior to the field trip.
