Introduction to Multi-Pitch Trad A

Introduction to climbing in a multi pitch environment-Module A.

This course is designed to teach students the skills to complete multi pitch traditional routes at crags. Students will be given time and education to safely and efficiently to lead multi pitch climbs and develop new skills that will ensure they are effective leaders for the multi pitch environment.

This course will cover the following skills:

  • Gear Selection
  • Route selection 
  • Rappelling skills
  • Anchor Building
  • Racking
  • Belay station transitions
  • Exit strategies or "how-to bail"
  • Dealing with environmental factors

Students must be able to provide proof of vaccination to take this course.

This course is a required course for becoming a rock rope lead. To be a rock rope lead you must take Introduction to Single Pitch Trad, Introduction to Multi-pitch trad and Self Rescue 1.

If you apply for Single Pitch Trad and indicate you are interested in multi pitch you do not need to apply separately for multi pitch trad. Multi pitch trad applications will be online on Dec 1 and close Dec 15th. Those who take Single Pitch A will be routed into this course to ensure dates line up.

  • rock shoes
  • 2 personal anchors
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate biners per sling
  • 3 locking biners
  • auto blocking belay device, ei petzle reverso, BD ATC Guide, mega jel
  • nut tool
  • 20 feet cordalette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • smaller Camelots optional; BDC3's, or any other brand  
  • chalk bag
