Introduction to Multi-Pitch Trad A

Introduction to climbing in a multi pitch environment with an alpine climbing focus.

---Early registration will happen November 19th though Dec 9 for Intermediate Package Students--- Please do not apply or register if you are not part of the 2019 Intermediate Climbing Package with Seattle. Regular registration will open January 1st.

This course is designed to teach students the skills to complete multi pitch traditional routes for the alpine environment. Students will be given time and education to safely and efficiently to lead multi pitch climbs and develop new skills that will ensure they are effective leaders for the multi pitch alpine environment. 

Since this courses focus is for the intermediate class it will have more of an alpine focus.

This course will cover the following skills:

  • Gear Selection
  • Route selection 
  • Rappelling skills
  • Anchor Building
  • Racking
  • Belay station transitions
  • Belay escape
  • Ascending a rope
  • Exit strategies or "how-to bail"
  • Dealing with environmental factors

It will also discuss planning alpine trips and ways to prepare for them:

  • When to bring ice axe + crampons
  • How to deal with being benighted
  • Dealing with rock fall
  • A larger focus on natural pro and efficiency

  • one set of Camelots size .3 to a #3
  • full set of nuts
  • helmet
  • harness
  • rock shoes
  • 2 personal anchors
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate biners per sling
  • 3 locking biners
  • auto blocking belay device, ei petzle reverso, BD ATC Guide, mega jel
  • nut tool
  • 20 feet cordalette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • smaller Camelots optional; BDC3's, or any other brand  
  • chalk bag
