Introduction to Multi-Pitch Trad A

Introduction to leading multi pitch trad climbs.

Join other members of The Mountaineers community to learn the skills necessary to complete multi pitch traditional routes at crags and beginner/intermediate alpine rock. Experienced volunteer instructors will provide time and education to safely and efficiently lead multi pitch climbs and develop new skills that will ensure they are effective leaders for the multi pitch environment.

This course will cover the following skills:

  • Gear Selection
  • Route selection 
  • Rappelling skills
  • Anchor Building
  • Racking
  • Belay station transitions
  • Belay escape
  • Ascending a rope
  • Exit strategies or "how-to bail"
  • Dealing with environmental factors

Don't hesitate to email your volunteer course leader Tess at tesswendel@gmail.com with your previous climbing experience.  You'll get the most out of this class if you are comfortably leading 5.9 in the gym, 5.7/5.8 sport outside and have 5-10 single pitch trad leads under your belt.

Required:

  • one set of Camelots size .3 to a #3
  • full set of nuts
  • helmet
  • harness
  • rock shoes
  • 6 24 inch alpine slings with 2 wire gate biners per sling
  • 3 locking biners
  • auto blocking belay device, ei petzle reverso, BD ATC Guide, mega jel
  • nut tool
  • 20 feet cordelette, 6M nylon, 5M tech cord or spectra
Optional:
  • smaller Camelots optional; BDC3's, or any other brand  
  • chalk bag

Carabiner Wrap Omni
