Be ready to depart the parking lot to ride at noon. You are welcome to ride your bike packed with bikepacking bags to see how it handles with the gear. This is optional.
This clinic will be held at Duthie Hill mountain bike park and is aimed at those bikepackers who are new to mountain biking and are interested in learning some skills for trips that involve singletrack riding. Mountain bikes strongly encouraged but gravel bikes might work depending on riding goals. Inquire with clinic leader if you do not own a mountain bike.
Objectives:
- Learn about the classification system for mountain biking trails: green, blue, black, and double black ratings
- Learn about body positioning when riding on trails (climbing, coasting, and descending)
- Learn braking skills
- Learn shifting skills

Required Equipment
- Mountain bike in good working order. Check tire pressure, shifting, and braking before attending the clinic. We'll discuss tire pressure during the clinic.
- Helmet
- Repair kit including: tire pump, patch kit, tire lever, spare tube or bacon strips (if riding tubeless tires), and multi tool
- Proper clothing for the conditions including additional layers
- Water, snacks
