Bikepacking Session #2 - Field Maintenance & Repair - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

Lecture: Basic Bikepacking Course

Bikepacking Session #2 - Field Maintenance & Repair - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

A workshop on the most common bike field maintenance and in-the field repairs.

  • Easy, Easy
  • Casual

Come learn how to perform basic bike maintenance and repair before and during a trip. This is an introduction, a discussion, a sharing of knowledge among all participants and instructors.  It is organized as a rotating set of stations covering the four main systems that commonly need maintenance or repairs in the field.

  • Drivetrain
  • Brakes
  • Tires and Wheels
  • Tool kits and tools

In each section, instructors will review the most common issues, their symptoms, how they can be repaired, and tools that may be needed. Participants enhance each topic by sharing their knowledge and experience, their different bike types and technology choices, such as tubed vs tubeless tires, rim brakes vs disc brakes, etc.

Although this is not a hands-on session, additional information or hands-on practice may be covered in the check-ride, in Lecture #3 or in separate seminars/clinics, depending on the needs and interest of participants.  The main objective is to introduce the most common field issues and start participants thinking about what they need to research further about their particular bike.

NOTE: An E-Bike is not allowed in this course.

5:45 PM at the Seattle Program Center.  We'll be in Goodman A & B, starting at 6:00 PM.
