Summer Day Camp - Ultimate Survivor

ULTIMATE SURVIVOR Camp is for campers ages 8-13

For campers ages 8-13, this week of DAY CAMP is filled with learning the tips and tricks to becoming the ultimate survivor! Each day will focus on skills and hands-on activities to survive in the PNW, including map and compass training, backcountry cooking and fire safety, wilderness first aid, and of course the favorite - shelter building!  Campers Students will leave camp ready for an overnight adventure that will put their skills to the test. Day camp is Monday - Friday 9:00-4:00 at the Olympia Friends Meeting House.

Basic Schedule:

Monday: The morning will be filled with fun get-to-know-you games as well as focus on learning map and compass skills that are essentials to safely explore the outdoors. We will be spending the afternoon putting those new skills to the test as we explore the local nature park nearby using bearings to lead us to an exciting destination.

Tuesday:  We will dive right in to wilderness first aid by learning skills and playing scenarios for wilderness rescue at a local park nearby.  After a refreshing lunch at the beach, we will fill the afternoon with games and activities that will focus on 10 Essentials and Leave No Trace.

Wednesday:  Your camper will create a variety of shelters using only the things you would find in the wilderness and a typical daypack for hiking. We will also learn how to protect food from animals as well as how to safely react to the different animals in the wilderness that you may encounter.

Thursday: Learning the local edible plants is a great part of survival! After learning about local edible plants, we will head out on a foraging hike and return to make some delicious treats using the plants we found. We will also learn about fire safety, how to build small fires in the outdoors, and fun foods you can cook over the fires.

Friday: Our final day will be working together to put all the skills that were learned into practice. We will build a large group shelter using branches and rope, hang our snacks in a bear bag in the trees, make some hot cocoa using the things around us, and use a variety of games, relay races, and activities to reinforce 10 Essentials, Leave No Trace, and other skills that we have learned throughout the week.
