Wilderness First Aid (WFA) - Griffin Fire District Station 1
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) 16 hour course offered through Base Medical, with 8 hours of on-line self study, then an 8hour day practicum, including hands on skill practice and scenarios. A final on-line test with a passing grade of 80% or better will net the student a 2 year WFA certificate. CPR will be taught separately. First priority given to Olympia Climbing and Scrambling students (contact leader before opening date. Branch trip leaders with 2 or more leads in the past 12 months can take the class no charge (contact WFA leader).

The Mountaineers is partnering with Base Medical to offer the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course. This iteration of WFA is a course consisting of approximately 8 hours of online work, then an 8 hour in-person day of hands on skill training and scenarios, with a final on-line test. The final exam must be completed and passed with a score of 80% or higher within seven days of completing the practical portion of the course, and will net the student a WFA certificate good for 2 years.
Course Details
- You will receive an email with a link to the online course work on [date]. Online course work must be complete prior to the practical session on March 7.
- The in person practical session of this course will be held at Griffin FD Station 1 from 8 AM to 5 PM. More information about the practical course will be sent via email closer to the course date.
- The online final exam must be completed (80% to pass) by 3/14/2025.
Class sign up starts on Feb 10, class runs 8-5pm on March 7 at Griffin Fire District Station 1 at the Steamboat Island Exit off of Hwy 101, North of Olympia. Students are required to have completed the on-line portion of the class and bring a copy of the completion certificate to attend Saturday's practicum. First priority given to Olympia Climbing and Scrambling students (contact leader before opening date. Required Equipment
Your standard Day pack with 10 essentials, lunch, first aid kit (for review only), sleeping pad, trekking poles or ice ax, and any other items you would normally carry on you Mountaineer day trips.
